Safety Sign Styles
OSHA Sign - The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA 1910.145) requires the use of safety signs.
ANSI Z535 Sign -The ANSI Z535 Committee on Safety Signs developed a set of standards for the design, application and use of signs, colors, and symbols intended to identify and warn against specific hazards and for other accident prevention purposes.
ALERT Sign - Alert signs help you promote greater and more rapid communication of safety messages. (Alert signs do not comply with the ANSI Z535 standard).
CUSTOM - Custom blank signs allow you to create your safety message without a header. Pictograms may be added to the right side of the sign (see Alert sign style) to help communicate warnings.
Safety Signs and OSHA Signs Materials
Self-Sticking Polyester signs are printed on polymer plastic and over laminated with a clear plastic coating to protect graphics against abrasion, sunlight, chemicals and weather up to 8 years outdoors, even longer indoors. They use a permanent, pressure sensitive adhesive that forms a long-lasting bond to even the most difficult surfaces and shapes.
Plastic signs are a cost effective way to meet all your safety sign requirements. Plastic laminate protects printing and signs stay legible up to 2 years outdoors, even in the harshest conditions. Plastic signs are easy to handle, mount, and store. Material description: .060" over laminated plastic.
Aluminum signs are ideal for both indoor and outdoor use. They give you the strength and durability of metal, but because they are aluminum, they never rust. Each sign is sealed with a tough plastic laminate to resist sunlight and the toughest weather conditions for up to 8 years outdoors. Aluminum signs can also tolerate temperatures up to 2120°F (1000°C) and years of chemical spills, wash downs and cleanings with ease. Material description: .040" over laminated aluminum material.
Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic out performs all other sign materials. They are guaranteed not to chip, fade, rust, shatter or peel for 15 years. UV-resistant graphics stay bright and legible without fading, even outdoors. Fiberglass signs give you the ultimate in chemical and abrasion resistance, perfect for the harshest environmental conditions.

- Markers supplied on a coated backing material that makes handling and installation easy
- Marker ends should be banded with Brady Directional Flow Arrow Tape
to indicate pipe content flow direction - Available in four styles
Brady Snap-On™ Vinyl B-915
- Designed for pipes that have an outside diameter of up to 6” (including insulation). Larger sizes are available.
- Coiled plastic is lightweight and durable
- Ideal for indoor or outdoor use
- May be applied to dirty, oily, greasy or rough surfaces
- Installs quickly and easily in older facilities or 360° visibility
- Can be removed and reapplied in other areas
- Available in four standard, pre-coiled sizes
Brady Strap-On™ Vinyl B-915
- Designed for pipes that have an outside diameter of 6" or larger (including insulation). Smaller sizes are available.
- Ideal for indoor or outdoor use
- May be applied to dirty, oily, greasy or rough surfaces
- Installs quickly and easily in older facilities or new construction
- 360° visibility
- Supplied as a flat sheet with slots to accommodate BradyLock™ Fastener straps. Styles F & G come with pre-cut straps to fit the specified pipe diameter. For Style H, use additional strapping sold separately.
Regulatory Information
ASME (ANSI) Standard A13.1–1996 The ASME (ANSI) Standard for pipe identification is a widely used guideline in determining pipe identification requirements. The purpose of the standard is to “assist in identification of hazardous materials conveyed in piping systems and their hazards when released into the environment.” “Pipes are defined as conduits for the transport of gases, liquids, semi-liquids or fine particulate dust.”

Valve Tag Material Selection
Indoors, outdoors, harsh environments or light duty applications. We offer you valve tags made of the materials to match your needs. Choose from one of the following materials that best fits your custom valve tag application.
Brass
- Description: Made from 19 gauge solid brass
- Use For: general purpose valve identification.
- Max Temperature: Material 1200° F, Ink Fill 233° F
Aluminum
- Description: 19 gauge solid aluminum
- Use For: Color coding by content, system or service.
- Max Temperature: Material 1500° F, Ink Fill 233° F
Stainless Steel
- Description: .025 Stainless Steel
- Use For: Ideal for harsh environments or where a stainless steel is specified.
- Max Temperature: Material 2700° F, Ink Fill 233° F
Plastic
- Description: 0.060 in (1.52 mm) plastic engraved tags are constructed of flexible, tough, stain-resistant multi-layered acrylic.
- Use For: Plastic Tags are engraved which allows for multiple lines of copy and more detailed description. Available in 7 colors for color-coding - Black, Blue, Brown, Green, Red, White, Yellow.
- Service Temperature: -40° F to 175° F
Anodized Aluminum
- Description: 0.032 in. (0.81mm) Engraved Anodized Aluminum Tags are processed so the color is actually part of the surface.
- Use For: Designed for use where high temperature exposure is a factor. Many colors available for color-coding - Black, Dark Blue, Light Blue, Green, Red, Yellow and Orange.
- Service Temperature: -40° F to 1400° F
